ECCENTRIC SLEEVE NOTES was a UK fanzine active during most of the meat of the post punk era, 1981-84. It didn’t seem to discriminate between the more hard-driving and arty of the bands – Au Pairs, Delta 5 and such – from the fluffy and lightweight pop of Altered Images, U2 and Depeche Mode. Definitely done in early fanzine cut-and-paste style and with real passion. All issues are scanned and available to read at the link.

Curated Chaos from Ribbon Around a Bomb
Somehow found this site whilst frolicking around the internet & it’s now bookmarked for some deep divin’. Ribbon Around a Bomb is a burgeoning multimedia empire helmed by La Lengua, and she’s pretty rad across the board. Her radio show and podcast is 100% female-fronted punk rock, postpunk and no-wave noise, and I swear, I don’t know how these youngsters know so much about music these days, but goddamn it, they do, and they’re doing laps around us. She’s got a lot to teach me about the past & the present, and indeed all of us.
Moreover, Ribbon Around The Bomb website’s sort of a modern primer on past & present outsider art, music, photography and style. It’s a visual onslaught of photos, links, flyers and all sorts of underground ephemera. I’m just getting really acquainted with it right now. Wanted to make sure you had a chance to do so as well – download a couple of radio shows and get clicking right here.
Let’s Go Record Shopping in 1981 Berkeley
My nostalgia-drenched post about my early record store shopping experiences has just been posted to my Hedonist Jive blog.
Household – live on WFMU
Haven’t listened to it yet, but NYC’s HOUSEHOLD are thankfully still around after recording last year’s best record, and played a set on Liz Berg’s show last week that I’m about to listen to now. Let’s listen together, shall we?
Mudhoney “I’m Now” movie available to rent
No, I still haven’t seen it yet, but the MUDHONEY documentary “I’m Now” is available to rent & stream online as of today. After we get all the Halloween candy down the throats of the neighbor kids tomorrow, I’ll be finally watching this one, which apparently includes interviews I did for the film well over two years ago.

Record collecting culture in Japan is another world, as I discovered during a marathon record shopping day in Tokyo in 2003. Here’s more proof.

Nuke The Knack!
I tried to find a photo of the buttons or bumperstickers that accompanied the Knack backlash to no avail. I remember the hatred very well.
