CHAINSAW fanzine, early 1980s from the UK, featuring a flexidisc w/ both the Instant Automatons and The Tronics on it….!

I made this compilation for my main blog The Hedonist Jive back in May of this year, and figured you folks might want to take a crack at hearing and downloading it.
It’s called “Hedonist Jive Post-Punk Blowout” (clever, hunh?) and spans the proverbial gamut from aggressive, limber noise; female-vocal art-thump; left-of-center punk rock; and early British DIY (including that blog’s namesake song from The Midnight Circus). Some of these songs have been favorites of mine since I was a wee pup; other were only discovered in the past decade of so. All date from 1978 to about 1983 and fit the already loose “postpunk” category very loosely.
There are two ways to enjoy this playlist – download here and “own” the mp3s I’ve carefully handpicked for ya, or go over to the playlist I made on 8Tracks, and listen to it streaming on your iPhone, Android devices or your computer. Same songs both ways.
Download The Hedonist Jive Post-Punk Blowout.

The ELECTRIC EELS, circa 1975.

Listened to a great 2009 live show by Monterey, Mexico’s recently-departed two-piece XYX this morning, full of clattering reverb and ghost-noise spazz attack, all while rooted in the throbbing garage punk idiom.

This gentleman makes the most amazing mixes….a super-deep record collection and high commitment to quality. Follow him on 8Tracks and get schooled. Only HedonistJive does it better over there.

I reckon this fanzine has been out now for a year, but MAKING WAVES #1 just arrived in my mailbox over the weekend and looks to be a first-rate read. It’s focused on female-fronted punk and post punk, primarily of the 70s/80s, with Stef Petticoat, Alice Bag, Dolly Mixture and Kleenex/LiliPut among the interviewees. I’ll let you know how it goes.
Meanwhile, you can order you own printed copy, download a PDF, and/or check out a mix that Camille and Mary made for you right here.
