Ready for another stunner of a band from England? Meet EDIBLE ARRANGEMENTS. Info’s hard to come by – they’re new, you see – but they’ve got a debut “tape”/digital download that you can grab for 3 GBP. What’s that, like 20 cents? You can afford it, is what I’m saying.

They’re a minimalist, ramshackle, rain-on-the-windows, riots-in-the-streets sort of DIY pop/art student band that could only be from England. 2013, 1979 – who cares, right? It’s a fantastic, insular sort of sound that you’ll both find recognizable and warmly friendly and a little jarring to boot.

CANDY HIGHWAY are a new London band – two gals, two dudes – and I think you’re going to find their “shards & shreds” approach to punk rock noise very fetching and desirable. They’ve got a free 8-song demo out there for download called “Eye for an Eye and Eye and I”, and the longest song clocks in at a regal 1:49, with the rest hovering around the 30- to 60-second mark.

Here’s one that I dig greatly called “Mad and Glad”. Thanks to CS for recommending them.

Erika Elizabeth Made a Compilation For You

Just as she did for those of us who donated to WMUA this year because of her rad rocknroll show “Expressway to Your Skull”, disc jockey Erika Elizabeth made a “custom mix” of songs that she’s decided to not just share with donators, but with everyone. I asked her for a collection of female-fronted 90s punk/noise/pop, and I got what I asked for.

I guess for some of those who said simply, “surprise me”, they got the all-covers mix “Reflect What You Are”. And now you get it as well. Maybe you should send her some money if you’re feeling guilty or if you’re a fan of the show like the rest of us in Dynamite Hemorrhage Nation are.

At one point (1980-81) THE MEAT PUPPETS were so experimental and deranged that they fit best on bills with arty synth bands and weird hardcore punk/goth bands who spit fake blood on stage. I’d have enjoyed this night of Los Angeles debauchery very much had I not been such a young’un at the time.

VERONICA FALLS were selling a limited 6-song CD EP at their show on Tuesday called “SIX COVERS, VOL.2” – a no-pressure, lower-gloss quick run-through of six cover songs at the guitarist’s house. It’s really, really solid. While they apologetically downplay their preparation and practice in the brief liner notes, you won’t be able to tell, as everything sounds first-rate.

This one’s (“Is Anybody There?”) a cover of Home Blitz covering Cock Sparrer (!). Other covers are of The LA’s, The Moles, The Rats, Ween and Bobby Dylan.

Totally bonzai garage punk classic called “Icepick” from 1992 by SUPERCHARGER, a raw trio from the San Francisco Bay Area whom I got to careen around the room to a bunch of times at parties, warehouse shows and the occasional "club" gig. This is from a 1-sided 45 that Trent from The Mummies put out on his own label in an absurdly limited quantity.
