BRAIN TRANSPLANT, an LA-based “KBD”/garage punk fanzine from the late 1990s, edited by Roger Mah.
Great piece from SPY magazine, 1994 – right when grunge mania had really hit the mainstream and had extended its tentacles further into “hot scenes” like San Diego and Chapel Hill.
It’s another edition of our hour-long series of podcasts/mixtapes/fake radio shows called DYNAMITE HEMORRHAGE RADIO, coming to you for the 37th time since we kicked off this relatively rewarding endeavor late in 2012. I focused this one pretty laser-like on new stuff, both new bands and new reissues. Accidentally uploaded this as I was getting ready to record the next iteration of Dynamite Hemorrhage Radio later tonight….and proceeded to listen to it three times in a row. It’ll rip a hole right through Friday and straight into Saturday morning. Lou’s Anxiety Song!!!
CURIOSITY IN STOUT SHOES was a short-lived (one issue?) fanzine put out by Christina Madonia in Austin, TX. Very soon thereafter she married one Tom Carter, moved to Houston, and became the Christina Carter whom we know and love from Charalambidies and solo recording fame.
She put together a fanzine very much in keeping with the earthy, ethereal, poetic and dissonant nature of her music. We were in touch pretty frequently back then – by letter, kids – we didn’t have no internet – and I was sorta stunned after pulling it out of a box last week to even see myself thanked in this issue from about 1991, for providing encouragement. Hey, I didn’t do nothin’.

Dynamite Hemorrhage fanzine is available for sale – but only for about 10 more days, because I’m moving to Norway for the summer, and I don’t think they have mail service or envelopes there (and I’m not going to haul my last box of remaining ‘zines there to find out).

I was a little miffed to find nothing new here outside of 1978 live stuff to go with their excellent two 45s, but some of that live stuff’s excellent, like “Don’t Rock The Flowers/Felt Hammer”, which I’m posting for ya here. Some of the live tracks even have Dave E. (Dave E.!) on lead vocals – word has it he was in the band for a tiny slice of their 6-month existence.

DIE KREUZEN, defending punk rock live on Milwaukee cable TV in 1983. Nice young men in the interview, and a furious set that kicks in at about the 14:30 mark until the end of the program.
