Here’s your chance to stream or download Dynamite Hemorrhage Radio #40 – which will be supplanted by a new episode later this evening.

dynamitehemorrhage:

How about we post last week’s podcast again, in case you haven’t streamed or downloaded it yet…?

You can pretty much set your watch by the arrival of a new DYNAMITE HEMORRHAGE RADIO podcast, every two or three weeks or so, give or take a few days on either end. Our newest edition is our fortieth (four-zero; #40) and was recorded on the 4th of July in a place where said day is utterly meaningless and uncelebrated. I’ve been enjoying larding these shows up with new stuff rather than mp3s from my outrageously bountiful mp3 collection (you should see it!), primarily because every two weeks I keep hearing new stuff I think is totally rad. Case in point: THE COOLIES, PIECE WAR, THE YAKKS, DARK TIMES, MEN OH PAUSE, POW!, WOLF GIRL and COLD BEAT – all brand new. All great – or else we wouldn’t play it, right?

There’s also the new reissue of The Flesh Eaters“A Minute To Pray, A Second To Die” to contend with, as well as important material that its essential you listen to from Tales of Terror, The Milky Ways, Naked Spots Dance and others. It’s one hour and a few minutes, and it’s available for download on iTunes and Soundcloud and in other spots as well – like right here.

Detroit’s ROACHCLIP are among our favorite baffling, fidelity-compromised, murky DIY pop bands going, and after last year’s excellent “Discovery Park” 45, they’ve deigned to return the gift with a new 45 on Quemada Records.

Quemada say it best on their write-up:

Quemada is happy to announce the release of a new single from Detroit’s Roachclip.-the long awaited follow up to their excellent first LP, Discovery Park of last year. On this seven inch the ‘clip have retreated back into the murky garage from whence they were conceived and deliver two sides of primo paranoid psych rock. Imagine Kim Fowley and Bill Direen working out their bad vibes over an old Tascam in a mid-western basement.  The flip pours on some sugar, albeit thick and syrupy-just like we like it.

This song is, in fact, that flip – it’s called “Cast of Clowns”, and if you press the triangle button, it sounds like this.

BEST REASON TO WRITE A FUCKIN’ RECORD REVIEW TODAY! (7/14/14):

PIECE WAR Apathy lathe 10” (Epic Sweep, New Zealand – 2014)

  • If you look closely at the Piece War bandcamp screen shot above – under the “supported by” banner – the Piece War patron all the way to the left is tumblr’s very own Jay Hinman, he of Dynamite Hemorrhage, Agony Shorthand, Beer Samizdat, The Hedonist Jive and…Superdope! We stalk Jay as well as anyone (just like we do with urbankill and rockscissorsgun), regularly downloading his Dynamite Hemorrhage podcast the same way we use to mark up these yellowing zines with dots (have it) and checks (need it) and x’s (fuck that, throw it back) back in the days of ballpoint pens and paper. Nowadays we bookmark, you see, and bookmark we did in response to Dynamite Hemorrhage Episode #40!  (mr. goodbysunball beat us to the lathe too.)
  • Roaring out of the DH #40 gate was PIECE WAR, who we sorta knew from kissing up to and researching the new Coolies 7” three weeks ago, not to mention our deep appreciation for anything on Epic Sweep. But “Call On Me” was DH #40s second cut and WOW, were we pasted to the wall by the duo’s King Loser surf desperation…these two crack the bones of Chris Heazlewood but good. Shame on us for waiting so long to gnaw accordingly. Puts so much of that Burger Records finger sandwich food to shame.

The Flesh Eaters – A Minute To Pray A Second To Die LP (Superior Viaduct)

still-single:

RECOMMENDED

What can you say about one of the best records, if not the best, ever to come out of the punk scene? Simply this: it took vision to make it, and a fucking mind-meld to actualize it, kinda like whatever hold James Brown had on his ‘60s and ‘70s ensembles: the psychic lock-down, a…

Excellent summary by Douglas on my favorite album pretty much of all time.

Definitely recommend this article on the “Phantom Billstickers” blog that explores how Tom Lax came to be the world’s premier archivist of New Zealand’s underground sound. His Siltbreeze Records, which has been putting out  weird art, punk, noise and trash from NZ (and points elsewhere) for over 25 years, is in the throes of a pretty deep New Zealand excavation programme right about now.

SUPERDOPE #5 1992 (no page #)

MONKEY 101 review by Jay Hinman, Editor

  • Jay may have written this ode to Monkey 101 22 years ago, but the “right now" part applies today, cuz they just posted their unreleased 1993 LP  + the Silbreeze and Papa Popov 7”!

"We met up with Paul and Bob outside the Philadelphia Record Exchange last August. Here’s what they had to say.

Tom Leader: You guys seem like some kind of enigma. Do you still play music?
Paul: Yes, I’ve been playing with my band Chino for the last ten years or so.
Bob: I have also.
TL: What do you think of the current music scene?
Bob: A bit like Manchester, England here.
Paul: I really like …
TL: Do you guys have an idea if you’ll be getting back together again soon?
Paul: Yes.
Bob: I would rather play than pay today.
TL: Do you have much contact with any of the bands that were around when you were playing?
Paul: I don’t talk to Sonic Youth that much anymore, you know the breakup, but I still am in contact with Norman Greenbaum.
Bob: We still talk to Ashtray.
TL: What was the last time you guys got together to write a song?
Paul: During the Fairport Convention era.
Bob: At least a couple of minutes ago.

The sky was beginning to set on South Street so we shook hands and talked to Jose.”

Just listened to “transistor” a few weeks ago!
